SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge
Toyo Tires® Named Presenting Sponsor of SPEED WC Mosport Races, Touring Car Finale
TOPEKA, Kan. (Aug. 18, 2008) - Toyo Tires®, the official tire of SCCA Pro Racing's SPEED World Challenge Championships, has been named the presenting sponsor of this weekend's SCCA SPEED GT and Touring Car races at Mosport International Raceway as well as the SPEED Touring Car season finale at Road Atlanta.
Run as part of the Mobil 1 Grand Prix of Mosport weekend with the American Le Mans Series, Saturday’s SPEED GT race will be referred to as the Mosport SPEED GT Presented by Toyo Tires, with Sunday’s Touring Car event dubbed the Mosport SPEED Touring Car Presented by Toyo Tires.
The 10th, and final, race of the 2008 SPEED Touring Car season will also be presented by Toyo Tires, the Road Atlanta SPEED Touring Car Finale Presented by Toyo Tires, Oct. 3.
"Toyo is proud to be the presenting sponsor of the exciting SPEED GT and Touring Car events at Mosport, and for the final Touring Car race of the season at Road Atlanta,” said Steve Hutchinson, vice president of marketing, Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. “Toyo has enjoyed a long association with SPEED World Challenge, showcasing both the technology and performance capabilities of our Proxes line of high performance tires such as the Proxes R888 D.O.T.-approved competition tire currently used in the series.”
“Toyo Tires has been a great partner of SCCA Pro Racing and the SPEED World Challenge series since 2001 and it is great to see their name associated with two excellent events,” SCCA Vice President of Marketing and Communications Eric Prill said. “Mosport, with some of the most enthusiastic fans in North America, has held the most World Challenge events in series history and, with the top three Touring Car drivers currently separated by only five points, I know the Road Atlanta finale will be a barnburner.”
This weekend’s Mosport SPEED World Challenge Presented by Toyo Tires race weekend kicks off Friday, Aug. 22 with practice. Both series qualify on Saturday, with the day’s feature race being the Mosport SPEED GT Presented by Toyo Tires at 6:30 p.m. (EDT). Sunday features the Mosport SPEED Touring Car Presented by Toyo Tires race at 10:45 a.m. (EDT). Both races will air Wednesday, Aug. 27 beginning at noon (EDT) on SPEED.

Captain Penske
PENSKE: THE LEGEND CONTINUES
It’s as impressive for onlookers as it is aggravating for rivals – that whatever discipline Penske Racing turns to, it’s a consistent winner and a consistent title contender. Here’s why. By Jeff Olson
It’s not every day you get to tell the boss to stay home, but Tim Cindric found himself in that position in June. The boss, Roger Penske, had just undergone a medical procedure – nothing terribly serious, he says – and was recovering with some un-Penske-like time off at home. He intended to be back on his perch in the Team Penske pits for the IndyCar Series race at Iowa Speedway, when Cindric, President of Penske Performance Inc., convinced him to take a break and sit one out.
The result was a rare bit of history and an illustration of why the man is called The Captain. The Iowa race was only the third Indy car race Penske had missed since forming his race team in 1966. The other two absences? For his wedding, and 9/11.
